What book/essay/mag article/ short story/poem that changed your life or how you view the world? explain why?

There's nothing I can think of a movie or a short story that changed my life or how I view the world. So I start thinking of my all-time favorite movies and why I like them. After some few minutes of recalling of my all-time favorite movies, there’s one movie that first came to my mind. Pearl Harbor 2001 directed by Michael Bay. I really like that movie; it’s one of the best movies I watched. It’s a heart melting story that almost made me cry.

“There's nothing stronger than the heart of a volunteer.”
- Lt. Col. Jimmy Doolittle

I really like this quotation by Lt. Col. Jimmy Doolittle. A heart of a volunteer is full of desire and willingness to help. There’s nothing that can outdo those kinds of hearts. Those are what soldiers need to have when going to war, the desire to win, willingness to die for their country and eagerness to beat their opponents. If these are acquired by your brave men, victory is just waiting for you in the other side of the road.

“Not anxious to die sir, just anxious to matter.”

-Rafe (Ben Afleck)

This is what Rafe answered when he was asked if he is afraid to die. At first, I really don’t fully identify what it means. But thanks to Daphne, I now understand what the quotation means. And the meaning really touched my heart. The quotation means, Rafe is not afraid to die, he don’t even give a damn if he will die in this war. He is even willing to die. To live a meaningful life is what really counts for him. In Tagalong “Wala siyang pakielam kung mamatay man sya, hindi siya takot mamatay. Ang gusto lang niya ay nagkaroon ng kabuluhan ang buhay niya”. And for me, that’s what really matters. To live a meaningful life even death is waiting for you at the end. I really admired the braveness and courage of Rafe, his love for his country, desire to living a life where everyone will remember you and returning for those he had left behind, these are the few reasons why he keeps on eluding death.

The movie Pearl Harbor changed some of my views to the world. Life is a precious gift God has given us. But some of us, including me were afraid to die, afraid to risk my own life for someone else. But when I watched this movie, especially the scene where Rafe answered “Not anxious to die sir, just anxious to matter.” I suddenly realized why live a life full of doubts and fears when you can live a meaningful life where you will be always hark back to. Fear of death is just a hindrance to live a significant life, worth of reminiscing. I hope after you read this, It’ll impinge on all of you the importance of living a life free of regrets, fears and uncertainties. LIVE YOUR LIFE YOs THE WAY YOU WANT IT TO BE.
